Abstract Phi Beta Kappa is the oldest academic honors society in the United States. The organization granted Augustana College a chapter in 1949. The first Phi Beta Kappa scholars at Augustana were selected in 1950. Phi Beta Kappa recognizes graduating seniors who achieve academic excellence.
